Even though we are a big group, my ultimate goal is to find places that are up to par, safe, and accommodate us all. Taking into consideration, that we are always looking for a deal without putting our safety at risk or discomfort. We have use different methods in finding the right places for when we are traveling abroad and even throughout the US. Here are a few that we have used, and the experience met or exceeded our expectations.

Using Groupon to find accommodations when traveling abroad

For our trip to PUNTA CANA, we were a group of 6 and safety was a must. Because I traveled solo with all 4 kids, and my mamma joined us. After all, many things come into play when making my decisions. But for me, most of the times it has been just luck and randomness. As a result, I must confess that finding the GROUPON deal first was a huge component that triggered the rest of the trip.

When traveling abroad ensure that your place meet your expectations

It was a great deal for sure. I called and did my thorough research diligently on the property and its surrounding. Finally, I booked a 3-bedroom room at an all-inclusive PUNTA, CANA resort. Note, that in 2021 things were still affected by COVID and not all amenities were available. Hence, the huge discount the deal was. To us it worked perfectly, as we love to eat and explore the local shops and get out and meet the local communities.

Based on my previous experience, I have used GROUPON quite often in the past and never had any issues. Including for in state accommodations and trips. Therefore, it’s a search engine that I personally trust. In conclusion, what attracts me about places like GROUPON is that I can use it as a form of research. The type that opens the cans of worms for me.

Or next adventure was with Airbnb when traveling abroad

I must say the latest transaction with Airbnb was post COVID as well. All in all, many countries were having some exceptional deals when it came to traveling and accommodations. At the end this one was used for our trip to CARTAGENA, Colombia. This option was best as we, once again, are a large group.

I recall, my partner asking me to translate for him (LOL). Ensuring that the communication was streamline, and also taking into consideration the foreign country’s conversion rates. At last, we found a hidden gem, right in the middle of the main plaza, on top of a family-owned hotel. After all we had the space and freedom of being in a guest house with the amenities of a hotel. Lastly, the cost was incredibly Cheap.

The owners of the Airbnb were fantastic hosts. Additionally, they provided us with insights on activities for the entire family. As well as the rental came with a kitchen and amplitude space. During the trip, we were able to explore Cartagena all within our budget, without breaking the bank!

Other Platforms we have used

We also have experience using CHEAPCARIBBEAN and BOOKING.COM. These we use the same criteria as mentioned above. Thus far my least favorite of them all is BOOKING. Reason why is because I find that I have to spend a lot of time verifying the places found within the platform. Also, I have come across, some that the pictures and reviews are inflated with how the actual property looks like and offers. Always do your diligence and make sure you are comfortable with your final decisions.

These are just my opinions and our reflections of our experiences. Thus far we have had a blast traveling and experiencing different accommodations. We always come back with a story to tell LOL. Either from the kids acting up and complaining or from the mattresses review LOL. To us, is an added excitement to our trip.

  • Research within the platform you found the deal but also through google search
  • Call directly the hotel/Airbnb- this gives you the opportunity to see if the deal is legit and find out about any other discounts etc.
  • For us- what has helped when it comes to booking and navigating the reservations- Is speaking with the host/hotels in the native language- or during your messages online use google translate!
  • even if you are not looking to travel right then and there- look around often, so you’ll get a sense of cost and best times to travel for your clan.
  • GOOGLE is your best friend!! -let me say that again- GOOGLE is your best friend!!- you can do an aerial view of your location even before traveling! And much more
