How to Survive Momma And 4 Children Solo Trip
Once again, I for sure challenged my crazy self. This time we were all desperately in need of a vacation. The beach was calling our souls! I found another one of my amazing traveling deals and took the plunge. I traveled with all 4 children to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic all on my own. In addition, we all survived the traveling journey (Lol) and had a blast in Punta Cana!
Why Punta Cana was our destination of choice?
Well, you see spring break was fast approaching. And as a matter of fact, the icing on the cake was that it was also my 3rd child birthday month. Additionally, his birthday request was to fly on an airplane and go to the beach. It was all during the early wave of the pandemic restriction coming down back in March 2021. Nevertheless, we were all eager to have some normalcy in our lives. As well as being able to celebrate his birthday since his previous one was cancelled the year prior. During the difficult time of the pandemic, we had no family/friends around us.
I was looking around (as I do with every one of my findings) lol, and I came across an amazing deal to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Out of all places, I found the deal on GROUPON! I called the resort to verify the GROUPON voucher information and to ensure the safety protocols were in place. The resort checked all of our boxes.
To finalize the plans, I looked around for airplane tickets and surprisingly found round trip tickets direct to Punta Cana for under $300 each. That was a steal!! All in all, the vacation was under 3,000 for us all (WOW). Last but not least, I felt I could handle all 4 of the children solo.
In retrospect, my partner was not able to join us, due to work commitments. Last minute, we ended up inviting my mom to join us in the Dominican Republic, as she was coming from a different state. Evidently, I did the trip solo, with just me as an adult during our flying journey part of the trip.
Traveling with 4 children
I must tell you; things went great! The airport was surprisingly packed with fellow travelers including most were still wearing masks and keeping their distance. In addition, sanitation workers were on top of keeping all areas clean, this was in both countries.
We traveled light since we were going to spend an entire week on the beach, just relaxing and enjoying the waters. the kids brought their carry on, and I just did 1 checked bag, in which I included pool toys for the little ones. Our expectations were set low as we were aware that the Pandemic had affected many aspects of the world, we once lived in.
An amazing trick that I did, and it worked wonderfully, was that I gave the oldest children permission to bring their debit cards with a trip allowance. During the flight, they used their cards to buy snacks and you should have seen their amazement in doing so! (LOL) The flight attendant was amazing, and she played along and even gave them extra items. All in all, all 4 of them behaved.
Doing the above can be a bit worrisome since traveling to a different can open you up for losing your items. Even so, I took the leap and trusted the boys in being responsible and careful when using their debit cards. It played out well for us. Now whenever we travel internationally, I give them a trip allowance and they get to use their cards. They be feeling full blow adult like (LOL). A WIN for all!
A Week Vacation in Punta Cana
The minute we landed, my two youngest were eager to see and feel the water. The in processing was a bit annoying as we had to fill a ton of paperwork, which were necessary to schedule our return COVID testing. Nevertheless, the resort staff were very professional and helpful. Upon completion of the paperwork, the rest of our time was spend exploring the resort and surrounding areas.
Many of the resort activities were inactive due to the Pandemic effects. I definitely enjoyed the fact that the resort was pretty empty. During our stay, we did not enjoy the restaurants’ food options that were on the premises of the resort. As a result, I became friends with the locals and instead ordered our food from local restaurants. BEST decision/hack ever!!! The food was amazing and most of all I saved a ton of money in eating from the local shops/restaurants!
Another thing we did was rented a vehicle and drove around Punta Cana, we stopped within all the locals’ little marts and enjoyed the culture and its vibes. My kids played with other children, and we enjoyed some of the local fruits and treats. We also ended going to different beaches to spend the days, just like the locals would do.
In our opinions our best beach was MACAO, beach! it was amazing! it’s waters, waves, views and most importantly the food YUM! We even got to enjoy a family platter of fried fish, shrimps and tostones with some amazing piña colada drinks. The kids loved the beach and its waves. Overall, it was a magnificent experience!
It has been one of our favorite trips!
We can’t wait to have another Momma & kids solo beach trip! I must say, I have become an expert when it comes to seeking traveling opportunities that fit our budget. Including, but not limited to, I have managed to even enjoy traveling with my children abroad. I look forward to our next traveling adventure. By this time all of the children are accustomed to traveling and do a great job throughout the journey.
another tip to keep in mind, is that I have traveled with children for over 15 years, and I acclimate my kids to traveling from the womb (LOL). Traveling for me is not stressful, as I set my mindset ahead of time and give myself grace. I look forward to setting up my yearly traveling budget and get the kids input about their opinions on our potential next vacation.
Last but not least, we got the PUNTA CANA vacation that we all desperately needed, and we can’t wait to go back! Till this day, my son remembers his beach birthday celebration! From every trip I learn a new hack and implement it into our newer travel adventures.
